"Reesor Family in Scarborough” Church Luncheon and Historic Bus Tour
12 p.m. at Rouge Valley Mennonite Church

Take a step back in time – hear the stories behind the places you drive by every day, and discover hidden nooks teeming with history. The members of the Rouge Valley Mennonite Church invite you to attend a soup luncheon with storyteller George Reesor, followed by a historical driving tour hosted by Markham Historian, Lorne Smith, and George Duncan, Senior Heritage Planner from the Town of Markham

Local Food Cook-Off at the Downtown Stouffville Farmers' Market
2 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Downtown Stouffville

The Downtown Stouffville Farmers' Market is a locally grown, producer-focused Market. Join us between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. for a local food cook-off in celebration of Rouge Days! Taste the dishes prepared by your favourite local chefs and vote for the winner.

Rouge Days Evening: Food and Friends
5 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Markham Museum

Come celebrate the 4th Annual Rouge Days with live music, great local food and a glass of local wine!
Explore the south gallery with its new KEVA Planks exhibit. Meet the Blacksmith busy at work and tour the on-site gardens. Network with the diverse group of people working on environmental efforts within the Rouge River watershed.
This event is made possible through the generous support of AECOM.
Tours at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Welcoming remarks at 7 p.m.

The Markham Museum is located at 9350 Markham Road in Markham. The event is open to the general public, aged 19 and over. Admission is free but pre-registration is required. To register call the Markham contact centre at 905-477-5530.

FRIDAY, JUNE 7TH

Naturalist for a Day
10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Willowgrove Outdoor Education Centre

Join us to become a naturalist for the day! Your family will travel through the various habitats on our 100 acre property to explore the plants and animals that live here. Wade in the stream to identify invertebrates and creatures, dip a net in the pond to classify living things, use our tree guides to survey our woodlot.  The day will be hands on, educational and FUN!

Please bring your lunch to eat around the campfire - we will provide the s'mores! Please pre-register your family so we can provide the appropriate resources required to make an awesome day! To register, contact Laura at laura@willowgrove.ca or 905-640-2127.

Reptiles of the Rouge Walk with the Toronto Zoo
10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Beare Road Wetlands

Join staff from the Toronto Zoo's Adopt-A-Pond Programme for a leisurely hike through the Beare Road Wetlands to learn about the reptiles that call the Rouge Valley home.

Learn how to identify local species and their habitat. Find out how to help a turtle on the road as well as what to do if you find an injured one. If you have always been curious about the reptiles in the area this is a great opportunity to have your questions answered by local experts! Binoculars are encouraged for turtle spotting!

Meet at the "no vehicles" road sign beside the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre at 1749 Meadowvale Road, across from the Toronto Zoo. TTC: Bus 85 or 86 via Toronto Zoo. Bruce's Mill Hike 7 p.m. at Bruce's Mill Conservation Area

Join local naturalist Fred Robins for a tour around historic Bruce's Mill Conservation Area. Please dress for the weather- we walk rain or shine!

SATURDAY, JUNE 8TH

Mouth of the Rouge Habitat Creation and Investigation
10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Western Gateway, Pickering

Enjoy the scenic views of the Rouge River and Lake Ontario while participating in family friendly activities stationed along the waterfront trail. Join the City of Pickering, Toronto and Region Conservation and Pickering Rouge Canoe Club to build bird boxes, plant a wildflower garden and canoe demonstrations.

10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Rouge Valley Conservation Centre

Explore the Rouge Valley and learn about the local ecosystem and its flora and fauna from wildlife experts including Citizen Scientists, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Royal Ontario Museum and others. Take part in our Guided Interpretive Hikes, Henry's Nature Photography Hikes, Kids Eco Station Challenge and enter your best photo into our Photo Contest sponsored by Henry's. While you're here, grab a bite to eat and stay a while to enjoy some great music performed live by Social Potion.

Registration is required for our photo hikes and nature hikes. Please email events@rvcc.ca  to register.

Markham Civic Centre Wildflower Community Planting
10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Markham Civic Centre

Take part in a planting of wildflowers such as butterfly milkweed, purple coneflower and pearly everlasting to help beautify and help create a beautiful pollinator and butterfly garden! Experts from the North American Native Plant Society will be there to help answer you native gardening questions. Other participants include staff from City of Markham Operations (Parks), Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Evergreen and Rouge Park.

The Markham Civic Centre is located at 101 Town Centre Blvd, North of Hwy. #7 and West of Warden Avenue. The planting will take place on the south side of the pond, south of the building.

Building a habitat legacy in Bob Hunter Memorial Park
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Bob Hunter Park

Come "behind the scenes" at Bob Hunter Memorial Park to learn about this ecological site and how habitats similar to those that existed hundreds of years ago are being restored. Toronto and Region Conservation restoration experts will be on hand to share what has been done, how it was done and why.
